Collage of campus and student photos

Ruth Sherry ’60

During a visit Ruth made to campus, she was clear that Stonehill helped her realize her dream of being an educator. It was very important to Ruth to bequeath her significant collection of Irish history and literature books to Stonehill.

John Houde, Brockton resident

A lifelong resident of Brockton, John was determined to honor his family commitment to education. A proud neighbor, he contacted Stonehill to establish an endowed scholarship in his sister’s honor by bequeathing his estate to the College.

Dr. Frank Hilferty, Friend of the College

Through his friendship with then Stonehill President Rev. Bartley MacPhaidin, Dr. Frank Hilferty found a home at Stonehill for his love for education and his deep Catholic faith. Nearing retirement, he was concerned about the cost of moving to an independent living community and decided that creating charitable gift annuities with Stonehill would provide him with the income he needed for a secure, comfortable retirement.

Joanne Harrington ’69

Knowing how hard many students work to juggle different jobs to underwrite the cost of college, Joanne is concerned for students who need scholarships to complete their Stonehill degree. She has decided to use her estate to support an endowed scholarship to assist qualified students with demonstrated financial need.

Paul L’Homme ’55

A struggling student when he arrived at Stonehill, Paul L’Homme will split his retirement funds between Stonehill and Tufts Dental. As he explains, “The priests at Stonehill took a chance on me and helped me reach my dream of being a dentist. Endowing a scholarship through our estate plan is rewarding to me and my wife Irene.”
